SNVS Supply Chain Traceability Initiatives
Brazil's SNVS has several initiatives aimed at improving supply chain traceability for medical devices, particularly for devices used in the public health system (SUS — Sistema Único de Saúde):
BNAFAR / REDS: ANVISA's databases for recording product registrations and distribution data, used as the basis for supply chain oversight.
SUS procurement traceability: Medical devices procured for use in SUS hospitals are subject to additional procurement transparency requirements, including lot/batch number recording in procurement systems.
SNVS post-market surveillance programme: ANVISA's post-market surveillance programme includes random market sampling and testing of devices purchased through retail and healthcare facility channels, with traceability back to the registration holder.
Manufacturers and importers whose devices are supplied to SUS hospitals should be aware that supply chain data may be visible to ANVISA via the SUS procurement system.
Verify all information against official ANVISA sources before making regulatory decisions.
