Advertisements and Promotions

The advertising and promotion of medical devices in Singapore is governed by the Health Products Act (Cap. 122D) and HSA's guidelines on advertisements and promotions for medical devices.

It is the responsibility of the advertiser to ensure all advertising and promotional materials comply with applicable legislation and guidelines.

Key principles

  • Only registered devices may be advertised for supply in Singapore. Advertising an unregistered device as available for supply is a regulatory non-compliance.
  • Claims must match the registered intended purpose. Promotional claims must not go beyond the intended purpose approved at registration.
  • Claims must be accurate, balanced, and not misleading. Comparative claims (claiming superiority over competitor products) must be substantiated.
  • Off-label claims are prohibited. Advertising a device for a use not covered by its registration is an offence.
  • Testimonials and endorsements must be genuine, relevant, and not misleading.

HSA's advertising guidelines

HSA has published detailed guidelines on the advertising and promotion of medical devices, covering permitted and prohibited claims, advertising to healthcare professionals, and digital/social media advertising:
